Lake Tahoe

What makes it an incredible place for this activity is the beautiful scenery combined with the relatively calm and crystal-clear waters particularly on the northern shore of the lake in places such as Incline Village, Nevada.

I’ve personally done SUP paddling around Lake Tahoe and had a great time. I would recommend this activity to anybody who plans a visit to Lake Tahoe.

The majestic Canadian Rockies

Stand up paddleboarding in the majestic Canadian Rockies is an unforgettable experience. Banff, Jasper and Yoho National Parks have plenty of easily accessible lakes. Moraine Lake, Lake Louise and Lake Minnewanka are most popular in the Banff area. They are best early in the morning to have calm waters but not suitable for beginners. They are cold glacial lakes which wouldn't make the experience enjoyable if you fall.

To enjoy the solitude away from the popular lakes with stunning mountain views, I love paddling on Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park with surrounding glacial views. You can drive up to the lake if you don't want to carry your SUP. Another favourite is Horseshoe Lake, a little hidden gem in Jasper National Park. It's sheltered from the wind and surrounded by cliffs, making a perfect paddle any time of the day. Vermilion Lakes in Banff National Park never disappoint with panoramic mountain views. Due to their shallow and warm waters, they're perfect for beginners.

Crystal River in Florida

Hands down, without a doubt it's the Crystal River in Florida. I've been many times and explored the area by kayak, paddleboard and boat.

The Crystal is best known for swimming with manatees. The Crystal River is the only place in America where it is legal to swim with manatees.

Deceiving as it’s title is, it’s not a river. The Crystal River is an area that is a combination of an estuary, freshwater springs, and brackish water leading to the west coast ocean. All accessible once you launch into Kings Head Bay.

Kings Head Bay alone puts you in the heart of traditional old Florida on calm inland waters. The real treasure is the access to the springs, the guaranteed wildlife combined with predictably warm water. Paddleboarding here is suitable for any level, advanced or beginner alike. In the bay, the water is calm and if you crave wake it's an easy paddle out to the bay.

On the contrary, I've had many disappointing examples like the Evergaldes - which I don't think are suited to SUP. And, inland Fort Lauderdale. A specific example is some beds of water are either too brackish or too populated. The Everglades far too brackish to be comfortable and Fort Lauderdale exceptionally overpopulated with boats making any inland SUP experience practically unenjoyable. Too much wake. Too many gawkers and a need to be exceptionally cool. And, not only do you need to be cool, if you are going to use a SUP in Fort Lauderdale you better be in shape - it's an unspoken competitive need.

Equatorial Guinea

SUP in Equatorial Guinea: The coast of sipopo is one of those magical places for any paddle surf lover. It is an unexplored territory, totally virgin and with calm waters perfect for the practice of this sport.

Personally, I started in these waters being a total beginner. Gradually, I have been gaining confidence and thanks to the absence of waves, I am now able to get into rivers and explore further and further.

It is definitely a dream place, yet to be explored.
